Business Advice, Tips & Tricks - Is it really possible to make money doing surveys?

I have a friend who purchased a list of companies who offer surveys. She says that none have replied to here request to do surveys.

Supposedly the companies that offer the list guarantee results but no response via email request for a refund.

Is doing surveys really legit. Perhaps she is considered to old for the surveys.

Hi Eckdall,
It is possible to make money doing surveys but you should not be paying anything to join such a company. For instance, all the survey companies listed on http://biz-whiz.com/article326.html are free to join.
I do not know of anyone who is earning a full time income doing surveys but I have earned a few dollars so I know it works.
Any one else having any experience with survey companies ?
Mufad.

Post subject: Surveys as an income
I agree with Mufad that you should never pay for a list of survey companies (or any other list along these lines, for that matter).

There are definitely companies that pay you to take their surveys, but it's not something you're going to make any significant money with. It is, however, an easy way to make a few extra bucks here and there.

The company that I work with and recommend can be found here: http://www.mysurvey.com

You earn points for taking surveys and then the points can be redeemed for cash, merchandise, donated to a charity or you can buy raffle tickets. I've actually won one of their raffles, and I've turned in my points for cash and for merchandise. They are very prompt. I definitely recommend them.

I hope this helps!

I think you guys have said it all...... One thing to remember about surveys is that you are not in control over when you are selected to take them.... as a result you may go months without taking one..... earning you no money.

I have also personally earned a little money with surveys, but it's not something you want to try to turn into a home business.

I have to agree with everyone here. You can earn a bit of money, but not much doing surveys. You can do better if you can get into a focus group, but you'll often have to drive to it, and they don't happen very often. I have links to a few survey companies on my site's job page with the note that most don't earn much, so I don't really consider it a job. People always seem to be asking about them, though.

Everyone seems to be right on target about surveys I have taken a feww and earned a few dollars over the last three months. It seems that you have two chioces be all over the board when you sign up or stay very specific in you selection of categories. I also feel that you should not have to pay for a listing. Use several different search engines to find the free ones. Remember what Keith said you don't have control over who is picked.

Not for me. I signed up with a survey company that was supposedly reputable. They emailed me with numerous surveys, but after having filled them all out, I never got a penny. That was the second time I had tried surveys and nothing!

I think the idea is to sign up with several different companies so that you have several that are sending you surveys. I have found that it goes in cycles. Sometimes I receive them regularly and sometimes not.

You could do surveys in addition to something else that interests you.

Good luck in your search!

Why not just start a home based business? You can easily turn your hobbys into a part time business.
This way you can cover the cost of your hobby with the money you make. Unfortunately most people find it easier to spend money than to make money.
The people who make money see things in reverse.

Some people can make good money with surveys because they fit more into the "type" of person they are looking for.

Other people seem to get lucky enough to be sent some high paying surveys or focus groups.

Personally, I made somewhere around $40 profit in 2 months time. From what I hear that is pretty good. However, I still found it to be not worth the time at all.

Most people don't make that much, if any, with surveys. I do think that if you stuck with it for a few months you could make a little money. More and more high paying surveys might get sent to you after they realize you will actually do them.

The problem is that most people quit far before they reach that point.

I have a slightly different take on the survey market and have a website called Survey Galaxy. What we offer is a easy-to-use low cost service for people to create their own surveys. Many companies have no idea how quick and easy online surveys are and how effective they can be not only for the traditional market research but to get feedback from their employee's and customers and they can be used very effectively to market a product or service. Using our site people can provide a service where they create and design online surveys for companies. We charge a very small publishing fee, people can charge companies what they like. With little more than an online survey site like ours (there are others of course), email, a spreadsheet and word-processor you have nearly everything you need to provide a really professional service. The paid to complete survey market is in danger of being discredited, I had a chinese company contact me the other day saying that they could provide an online respondent list of 1,000,000 people - but if the survey subject is on holiday preferences having a million chinese people online ready to respond is not going to be of any use in terms of market research.

If your interested in joining online surveys I recommend:

http://www.survey-networks.com/

It's a totally free site that lists over 400 different online survey companies. And they provide you with a brief description to each site like how they pay and where you must live to participate. This site was very helpful to me, I hope it will be like wise for you.

Please don't ever pay to join those paid survey sites they are a ripoff.

Hi Maa- I was doing surveys also. The problem is I have never made any money with them. I have only earned points, what good is it to me. If I am going to take a survey that last 1/2 hour and all I get is points what have I made. Some of them also put you in a drawing for prizes. I haven't won any yet. I've been involved in surveys for 4 months.

I think there are better ways to spend my time and make money.

Just my humble opinion on the subject.

I'm actually doing fairly well with taking surveys. I average around $200 a month not including free products or raffles. It's not a lot of money but it helps! I've been taking surveys for a few years. The majority of them I signed up in October of last year. I decided to be a stay-at-home Mom and surveys was one of my first ventures. I am currently signed up with around 200 companies, and I answer surveys around a half an hour per day. I agree to not pay for the lists. If you are looking for survey companies to join I actually have a list of over 200 of them on my website. It's my collection from over the past year. They are all the ones that I am a member of. It won't replace an income but it can help. If you have any questions about surveys, let me know. I'd be happy to try and help you.

Hey Frank,
Some people do make money taking online surveys. It is legit there's just no need to pay for a list when some site list them for free. It is true that some people with certain demographics don't get picked as often as others. But if you sign up with 200-300 companies you are bound to get some survey invitations. I recommend signing up with as many companies as possible and when you start receiving survey invitations you can decide whether or not to participate according to the incentive offered. Some people make good money taking surveys it just isn't for everbody, you should at least give it a try. Here is a website that lists over 400 survey companies for free, remember never pay to join surveys.

Good Luck!

You definitely must do some research, I do surveys as well have have made a few dollars. Nothing to write home about, enough for gas for the week. I too don't believe in paying for something that you can get for free but like with anything free it may not always be what is seems.

I have not tried this service but it is a database of survey companies they have descriptions, and additional informaton and use a grading system to rate each company. They also claim to have researched each company in their database here is the link for anyone willing to research it more 5Star Surveys.

Here another option to research as well I have heard a great deal about this as well. Works the same as the above service its the site of a mom who worked as a Mystery Shopper for 7-years visit here site with the link. good luck

I have been doing surveys for pineconeresearch.com for a couple of years. I only average $10 or $15 dollars per month, but I do get to try/test great new products from home along with the money. I'm not at liberty to specify what products per the agreement, but it's like my birthday every month or two when I receive something.

They pay for online surveys as well as product testing, $5 dollars each. PineconeResearch is by invitation only. Check out the website. If they are accepting signups, do it. Of course, your demographic information will determine your acceptance. It depends upon their needs at the time. If you match their needs, you will receive an invitation to join.

Hope this helps!

This is true...usually the people who make really good money are earning by referring others to the program (on top of doing the surveys-- which isn't going to make anybody rich). So, people who have websites with a decent amount of targeted traffic can generate alot more this way.

Surveys are a bad way to make money on the web! You may make a few bucks but you wont make a living like all the survey sites promise. Once you sign up you get a list of companies to sign up with. This can be anywhere from 500 to a 1000. They tell you to sign up to 200 to 300 on the list. Once signed up your meant to get survey requests sent to your email address. About 5% of all the requests you get will be for actual surveys the rest will be programmes and adverts. Basicly youll get spammed into the next life:)

In general and from my experience I entered for and did surveys for many company's for months:

I never won a thing or got paid a penny.

If anyone is planning on wasting their time doing this: this my advice is you are doing just that ie wasting your time.
If you like the keyboard and wasting your time your in the right place.

Consider the work involved and the input you give the whole thing is a rip off and a bit of a con.

Consider yourselves slave labour.

There are good Companies out there to work for, RESEARCH and find yourself a good fit.

I'm surprised noone has anything positive to say about paid-surveys.

I paid to join a surveys database a month ago, and have since made $480 doing surveys. You see, the trick is to register with as many companies as possible - you cannot register with one, like mysurveys.com, and expect to make money. Each site will only send you 1 or 2 surveys per month, IF THAT. But when you've signed up with enough of these, than there should be no problem.

Maybe I just lucked out and chose the right survey database. The one I use is Top-Dollars.com, anybody else tried it?

I went to Surveyscout, Paidsurveysonline, Expresspaid, and a few others, and then pondered for a week which site to join. I finally chose Top-Dollars.com, b/c they have the most bonuses. So far, so good. I mean i'm not making $700 a week like they claim, but the $500 monthly works for me!!

Yes, they are VERY successful. In fact it only took Success University a few months to become the #1 personal development site in the world... and that is a highly competitive niche.

there are plenty of market reseach companies out there that want, and need, your opinion. you sign up for free, fill out a preferences questionnaire, then you are sent survey offers to take. you can really make $5-75 per survey. it's real money.

i checked out www.paidsurveychoices.com and it really does have great paid survey information plus legitimate paid survey offers.

Hi,

I recently purchased one of the surveys I list and have received several survey offers and have been paid some real cash to take them. The real key is to sign up for several. I am not saying that you will get filthy rich but for the person looking to supplement their income that $100-$250 per month and more that you can make is the difference between someone paying their gas bill to buying their kids a Chirstmas present.

During this holiday season, I wish everyone happiness and success in 2006.

If you can dedicate at least 1/2 an hour a day, 3 days a week to your computer, you can take paid surveys online and get paid. You won't get rich, but you'll make some nice side money, usually $2-$10 per survey.

If you're at all skeptical, find out all there is to know before you sign up. You can make money, but there is work involved. But it's work you can do anytime, day or night as much or as little as you want.

I published an article at http://paid-surveys-101.blogspot.com that answers the most common questions about paid surveys.

Im so sick of filling out surveys! I signed up with lots of different companies and have yet to get a single dime! Its all just a promise of fortune to get you to look at their ads and buy something. Now Im getting notices that I won something and go to claim it just to find out that I have to chose one of the fabulous offers from one of their sponsors and fulfill the obligation before they will ship me my prize. What a crock! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Hi,

The number one problem for people who "feel" they are not making money is the fact they dont spend the time filling out their profiles accurately, completing, and in detail so the companies contact you to fill out their particular survey...

There are actually alot of companies that will pay you to take surveys. Finding legitimate ones can be hard. www.wahmservice.com has lots of articles and tips on how to get paid fot surveys and avoid scams. They also have a large directory of paid surveys and it's free.

tekken,
I want to address your question about data entry jobs.
The data entry that they are talking about is entering ads on google adwords and other such networks, where you have to pay for each user that clicks on your ad - so there are no data entry jobs, they will only tell you how you can advertise their site by sepending your money.
You have to spend more money to advertise their site, and when other people purchase the data entry jobs, you will get a commission from clickbank. I doubt that it is possible to make money doing this because there are many people already advertising and the owners of those sites themselves are advertising the same sites. Such sites rise to the top in clickbank marketplace because each person that purchases their product will then go on to advertise the same product to others, so the number of affiliates promoting their site will increase and that is what clickbank uses to rank the sites.

You can see the list of free surveys recommended by this Biz-Whiz work at home community at http://biz-whiz.com/free-paid-surveys.htm

All the best,

Hi Folks,

My business associate Erich Winnecke recently posted this on why some people dont get out of the surveys because they dont put enough in to it. Take a peek at this....

"We need to point out to them that many people fail to make significant money because they don't complete the initial application and profile correctly and don't signup for all the the available survey companies and Focus groups.

The "profile" is one of the most important factors that will determine the type and number of survey invitations received. Everything about you - where you live, whether you have a job or go to school, what kind of car you drive, whether you are single or married, age, sex, etc. - makes up the personal "profile".

Unfortunately some people still don't trust the internet and are afraid to give all the personal info they need in the profile. Folks we can't have it both ways... if you want to make money online... you are going to need to develop some trust in the companies you deal with and give up some of your privacy.

This along with signing up with ALL the avavilable companies are why they don't receive the good surveys.

The number of surveys received depends on how many companies you register with, how quickly you register, and the information in your personal "profile."
The fact is some people just naturally fall into better categories than others do...

Generally speaking, the number of surveys you'll take depends on the number of companies you register with, the amount of information you provide them, and your personal "profile." It is also important to have seniority with them... the best surveys go the the people who have been there the longest and already have shown a good history of completing the surveys in a true and accurate manner. They need legitimate thoughtful and true responses. All you have to do is speed thru a couple of them and give false info and you'll find yourself not qualifying for many more."

Enough said!

Yes, I have been doing surveys for about a year now and it's not as good as they say it is. I have made some money doing surveys but not enough to make a living off it. It's good for some extra cash, but they make you wait 4 to 6 weeks for the check to come in the mail. The survey companies send me alot of surveys, but most of them are not paid ones, they are for you to be entered in a drawing for prizes, which I have never won anything. I have earned money from points, but it takes a long time to earn enough points for money. All of the Paid Surveys I have done you must first qualify for the study by doing a screener survey first and alot of them you will not qualify for and it's frustrating. I would never pay for a list of Paid Survey Companies, because it' not true what they say you will make and you can find alot of them by searching the web.
I hope this helps!!

Post subject: Free Paid Online Surveys - Why Choose Them?
Paid Surveys have attracted considerable interest in recent times as an option to earn money working from home. Many so called paid survey companies have been launched to take advantage of this interest. These companies charge their users $30 to $60 to get access to a database of market research companies. They also promote themselves with advertisements promising massive earnings to their users. On the other hand, free paid online surveys sites let you join the market research companies without paying a single cent. Let us examine what the reality about paid surveys is.

Market research is a multi-billion dollar industry. Companies want feedback from general public regarding their products or services and how to improve them. Before launching new products or services, they need to find out consumer preferences. For these, they conduct surveys and utilize the results to improve their products. Market research companies conduct surveys and other forms of consumer research on behalf of these companies. Previously, surveys used to be conducted in person and over telephone. With the emergence of the internet they have recognized the potential for its use for online market research in the form of online surveys.

The real online paid survey sites are online divisions of market research companies. They pay you for your opinions, with many of them giving you cash rewards. Some of them enter you into prize draws or sweepstakes. These survey sites are all free to join. You have to only find them.

The so called paid survey companies that charge you, gives you access to a database of survey sites. You have to join each site individually. They may boast of having 400 or 500 survey sites in their database. However only about 25 to 50 of them are really worth joining. The rest are not worth the effort of signing up. In addition, they don't feature some of the best survey sites as they have prohibited their promotion in paid survey databases.

There are also issues with spam and unwanted emails. Many people who joined these survey companies paying money have found to their dismay that their inbox has been filled with lots of spam emails. You might think that what you pay for is more reliable than what is free. However, in the paid survey scene the opposite has turned out to be true.

Many people who have paid these companies on an impulse buying decision have later found it difficult to even recover their investment. Paid surveys require a certain level of commitment on your side to join the survey sites and answer survey invites send to you.

Considering all these factors, it is not in your best interest to pay money to join the so called paid survey companies. So, what is the solution?

There are many sites where information on joining the real free paid online survey sites are available for free. They also review each market research company so that you have an idea about each before joining. But there is a word of caution. Beware of the free sites that require you to join a program or newsletter. in order to get access to survey sites. You might get lots of spam email from such sites. It always best to stick with the sites that offer you the information unconditionally so that you can join survey sites at your own pace.

What is your earning potential with these survey sites?
There are a lot of factors which determine this. These include your country, demographic profile and willingness to complete survey invites send to you. One way to maximize your earnings is to join more survey sites. Some of the best free paid online survey sites are Survesavvy, American Consumer opinion, Globaltestmarket, Opinion outpost, Pinecone Research, NFO mysurvey, Greenfield Online Surveys, Ciao Surveys, Surveys.com, NPD Research, ECN Research, Opinion square, Ipsos, Lightspeed, Synovate, Netratings nad Surveyspot. Some dedicated survey takers regularly earn $200 to $300 per month. Anything beyond that is difficult to achieve and claims to the contary are false.

In conclusion, free paid online surveys are your best bet to earn money from paid surveys.

One of the best resources online to find the best free paid survey companies is free paid online survey resources site Internet Paid Surveys. The site has separate sections for USA, Canada, UK, Australia and rest of the World, each of which reviews free paid surveys for that particular country.

Yes it is possible, however most surveys make you sign up for a free 30 trial that automatically bills you after the 30 days is up. The main problem is keeping up with who to cancel and when so that you don't remain longer than the free trial. There are much better opportunities. Check my site for 3 of them.

Some clarifications...ones that ask you to complete offers for credit are NOT paid survey sites. They are not doing market research. They are making money off you trying things for companies. Not that you' can't make money doing these, cause you can. But they are apples to oranges.

Yes, you can definitely make some nice side money on surveys. A living? No. But I am one of the lucky ones with good demographics and I make $200-350 a month from surveys. Once you get the hang of it, it really doesn't take much time at all, so to me, it's very worth it.

I have been doing surveys for a long time. I belong to a number of sites. Greenfield, Surveyspot, Your2cents and several others. I have been paid enough to keep my ebay shopping going. I get products to test in my home. As far as getting cash, over the years I have gotten a few hundred dollars. Then add the products, gift cards, and it adds up. I have not gotten rich, but that $20.00 check here and there, an extra $5 or $10 in my paypal makes it nice. I would never pay for a list of survey sites, since I know most of them, and can spot the scam ones for a mile. The sites that want you to sign up for "30 Day Free Trial" of junk are just that, junk. The only one of those I belong to is MyPoints. That one I cash out in a few times a year, which isn't bad concidering I seldom sign up for anything.
Good luck with the survey hunting. It just brings in a little, but these days, every little bit helps.

I just thought that I would share my discovery with those of you who are interested in making money online (through surveys, etc) in your spare time.

I've come across four legitimate opportunities whereby you can work from home. As far as I can tell however, these offers will not supplement a full time job income. You can definatly make some extra spending money on the side (as I have) through these sites and the best part of it is that you will never give these people a credit card number or money. It's as simple as joining and discontinuing participation if you discover it's not for you. Basically these offers involve reading emails, surveys and refering other people to join the site through a link you're provided with. The sites are below if you're interested. Good luck

I have joined many of these survey sites. They are a waist of time. Most of these survey sites do not pay you cash to answer their surveys. They only offer you entries in contests, chances to win prizes, etc. I wouldn't recommend them

I have been online for 48 hours taking surveys and the only thing I have gotten is confirmations for rewards and points. NO MONEY. it is definitely a waste of time.

I have a friend who purchased a list of companies who offer surveys. She says that none have replied to here request to do surveys.

Supposedly the companies that offer the list guarantee results but no response via email request for a refund.

Is doing surveys really legit. Perhaps she is considered to old for the surveys.

Surveys are time consuming! give yourself a break for a few and look for a solid online business. They are out there.

Anyways, There are definitely companies that pay you to take their surveys, but it's not something you're going to make any significant money with. It is, however, an easy way to make a few extra bucks here and there.

You just have to be careful with what survey sites you choose. Check their reviews before you sign up! Smile
