Web Design & Programming - Linking the web site Anonymous - Apr 21, 2004 - 01:37 PM Post subject: Linking the web site
Hi Friends,
I am currently in a process of building the links page on my site http://work-home-job.com.
Thanks to Mufad and his http://powersitesystem.com/ I have now achieved RP05 on my homepage and all one-click-down pages have RP from 04 to 05.
The only exception is the page containing links to other websites/WebPages. It has RP0 at present time ( http://work-home-job.com/Web_Links.html) .
I have recently asked one of the webmasters to link my page to hers (Before I did that, I had posted her interesting article on my site and also added the link to her website).
She requested to improve RP because she rightfully claimed that her page of links has much higher RP and exchange is not equal, benefiting same way to both.
Her recommendation was as follows (quote from her email):
…. to get some PR on your link pages, make each link page assessable from your home page. After you gain some PR on these pages then you can change it back to the way that you have it. Pages that are buried deep in your websites will take a long time to gain PR. When I add a new page or want it to gain PR quickly, I add a link to that page from my home page.
Another thing that will make it very easy for the search engine robots to follow your links is to create a site map. By creating a site map, all of your pages will be one click away from the site map and will make it easier for the robots to follow, thus gaining PR quickly.
Before I start to improve my web page I ask you kindly to review other possibilities of improving the link page.
Thank you for your help
Pavel

I think the main issue is that you don't have nearly enough of my articles on your site!
Kidding of course...... The webmaster's advice is good...... In theory the more high PR pages pointing to your links page the higher the PR of the links page. This will apply even if the high PR pages are internal pages of your site.
Site Maps will also help because of the same idea..... all a site map contains are links pointing to different pages of your site from your home page..... in your case, every page you link to with your site map would now have a pr5 page linking to it. That should help the ranking of your links page.

Pavel, I see you now have a PR of 4 on your main links page and a 3 on all the inner link pages. I am not sure if you have changed it since your post, but your link structure for your link campaign is fine. All your link pages are no more than 2 clicks from your page. Having the link to your main link page on your home page is enough, in my opinion. A site map is helpful though, it can benefit your whole site so it something you may want to do.

P.S. use site map just to provide that ONE link necessary for SE to crawl your page.
Keep in mind that its just ONE link, and that its often not enough to get neither strong search possition or deecent PR value.
=> Dont get inbound links pointing only to your index page, and dont think that PR-strong index page means PR strong site... yet, if you do have good internal linking strategy, it may be achieved, but one link is not enough. Try to interlink all targetted pages rather than making a bunch of links via site map (note that google doesnt follow more than 200 links per page).

Hi
Everyone knows that if your website has a Pagerank, you have all chances to reach good search engine positions, to get serious partners, or simply get more money selling text links.
Sitemap is especially important if your site:
* Has dynamic content
* Has pages with a lot of flash or AJAX
* Is new and doesn’t have many links
* Has a lot of archived pages that are not linked well, or not at all
And if the site has pages that can only be accessed through user entry. Sitemap will assist web crawlers in finding and accessing the pages.
Thanks

Yeah, you are absolutely right on that. Sitemap in simple words is the map of the site. This is very essential as there is no other better way we could navigate the visitors through our site, and the easier and friendly the site is for the visitors the more will they be interested to visit again and again.
