Hi everyone,
I have an Internet marketing tip that I think will save you a ton of wasted hours.
We all know about posting on message boards as a way of getting free advertising. Who can resist, right?
But, I found out that not all message boards are worth the time.
For example: I have a business opportunity, which I automatically assumed would be a perfect fit for recruiting work at home moms and women who had young children and wanted a nice income without the hassle of having to put out any money first.
Boy was I wrong. And, I am not ashamed to tell you that either, because if it can save you the months of back breaking work that I went through, it will have been worth it.
I posted on dozens of "mommy"/work at home mom/woman in sales type message boards.
And, I got zippo. Not a thing.
Seemed like most of the message board participants were more interested in spamming the board and getting the message out about their own products, than listening to any new ideas.
So, then, on a lark I went over to a message board on an MLM website which is visited heavily by a typically male/work at home dad audience.
I posted there and got five sign ups within fourteen days.
My people are already making money.
Know your audience folks! Just because a product seems like it would work for one group of people, doesn't mean it will.
Since, then, I try to post exclusively on message boards (like this one) that have a predominantly male audience or that are about 50/50 male-female.
Mixxed gender groups, I mean.
There seems to be more of a willingness to look at new ideas, and fascilitate the free flow of communication.
My best advice is to avoid the "mommy" boards. I think they are fantastic for mom talk and fellowship, but when it comes to recruiting powerhouse sellers, you gotta go with the professionals.
Glad I made the switch. |

Hi BJ -
I think you're probably right. I sincerely doubt the women on my board pay much heed to people coming in to recruit.
But although we get our crop of these types of posts, the focus is more aimed at supporting women to take viable skills that they have and put them to work. Most of these women don't want to get into sales if they can help it - even if they don't handle the product...
My husband, on the other hand - LOL. Yeah, he's into this satellite selling.
Kind Regards,
Lori |

Hello,
New here. How do you find out which boards are mostly male visited, or 50/50? Just curious. I guess I just automatically go to the wahm sites. lol Definitely not opposed to talking to the wahds, too.

Hi! I'm new to this site and I think you've made an interesting point. However, I am a mother and would like to work from home. I have been searching for a job that could allow me to do that. Most of the posting on different sites/message boards (including this one) doesn't give much info at all. All I see is the same things: answer surveys for money; add a link to your website; envelope stuffing and etc. I think these jobs are ok, but I'm looking for something more legitimate. I hear of people from "real" companies being able to work from home, but only after they reach to a certain position. I think they are so lucky. Why can't I have that same opportunity? Could someone PLEASE post something legitimate like that? I need something that could REALLY provide me with an income. I'm sorry if I seem like I'm just venting it's just that I feel like I have been wasting some precious time because I have been reading a lot of message boards.
Please, if anyone have some "real" suggestions respond asap!
thanks,
chelle |

You guys, I've had quite the opposite results from women's message boards. I get 7 or 8 woman every week that ask me if I can assist them in a work from home business opportunity.
I have found you have to commit more of your time to these boards. The women are looking to network with each other and if they smell a straight out poster coming in just to advertise they pay no attention. They are very loyal to "active members." I am having success, it just takes a little longer.
This question goes to Michelle... Are you looking for a "job" job or are you looking to start your own inexpensive business from home that you can work full time or part time? It makes a big difference.

Connie,
Hi! As for your question, I'm not really sure, both I guess. I'm looking for something that will allow me to work from home, whether it be my own business or be for another company. I am a mother just wanting to have a little more flexibility with my work schedule. I've thought about going back to school to do transcriptionist work, but haven't gotten around to it. I have a friend who does that and she sets her own hours. I also know someone who started his own business as a manufacturer's representative (he works a lot of hours but is able to set it on his own). I want some flexibility like those. I need ideas, solid ideas. Maybe I'm asking for a miracle. I guess I'm getting a little discouraged with all these boards. Everyone just sounds like salespeople for their own biz. I just want help.
Discouraged Mom,

EXCUSE ME! I have different opinion! (Always)
There are two types of Spamming!
1> Spamming
2> Decent Spamming
Spammers promote their offers wherever, whenever, however possible; including message boards! They never mind what would be the response? Their goal is to SPAM... just SPAM..!
Decent Spamming: This is intelligent avatar of brilliant peoples (including me!) You can not exactly say this is SPAM. Intelligent folks promote their offer through honestly participating in discussions. They do provide helpful information... they share their thoughts… reviews etc. Anyway it's healthy for everyone… And that's how business relationship and forum grows.
For example I visit this site whenever I have time and ask stupid questions or participate in other discussion. Whenever I post message I do "Decent Spamming" by putting a back link to my site! I'm sure... user of this forum has nothing to do with my website or products I sell... still it's funny.... every day many people visit my site from the signature link just because of curiosity!
------------------------------------------
Many affiliate company banned linking on discussion boards. Be careful- you'll be rewarded as Spammer!
-------------------------------------------
I have recruited few Useless (?) candidates from this forum... So my suggestion is, when you participate in forums your intention should not be recruiting or selling. It will improve your Link Popularity for SE... And real popularity
---------------------------------------------
Those who requested for “JOB Opportunity” need to read this article http://biz-whiz.com/article501
-----------------------------------
Am I rude? Just excuse and forget it! |

Nice article Mahesh - but I think gracefulweb was asking if they could link directly to the affiliate program website, not a website owned by the poster...i.e.
linking to affiliate.com/myaffiliatelink/ = bad?
linking to myownpersonalsite.com = good
At least, that's how I understood the question...as for the answer, frankly, I don't know - personally, I would rather promote my own website than an affiliate generated one b/c I know I can add/change the content of my website any time I want to while not having to worry about starting to promote it all over again...with an affiliate site - you really don't have too much control and should you decide to promote something else, you'll have to start all over with your promotion efforts...
My 2 cents |

Thanks for helping clarify my post. That's how it works for most major forums that I participate in. the first poster to this thread has a link ending in affiliates.cfm?aid=83950 which is an obvious giveaway. |

Great thread everyone,
Michelle (I like your name ) it can be very confusing I did not know what I wanted to do exactly what I did know was that I wanted something that would continue to bring in something each month without me having to do much work, lol no chance of that you have to do your research much of what I have come across offer free to join etc but this IMO can be a little misleading because you will need to invest at some point plus depending if you lead with the opportunity or products/service you will at some point have to try the product/service so you can effectively sell. If you frequent other forums, checkout the sig files many do have some interesting business opportunites. I think is just comes down to doing a little more research find a few things and than ask about them when possible.
good luck

This is an interesting thread... the signature issue probably deserves it's own thread. I agree with Teli, better to promote your own site- but not everyone has one.
My take on it is that signature files are acceptable ways of self-promotion without being considered spamming. I understand spamming to be posting blatant ads that are off-topic for the forum in which they are posted. Some forums provide a "spam forum" for biz opp ads, and this brings us back to the original issue ....
If you are posting an ad for a biz opp in this type of forum, whether it's targeting men, women, "mommies" <ughh> or whoever, you're just going to get lost in a sea of similar ads. Posting meaningful comments, articles and such are a much better way of getting people to read what you have to say (and click on your sig link )
As someone (I'm sorry-- I don't know who said it, it's becoming a looong thread!) pointed out, it does take time. Is it worth it? Oh, I think so but more in terms of building credibility, branding, etc. |

I have had much success networking on "mommy" boards, you can get some great traffic this way, the key is to be active on the boards and post often. You build both professional and personal relationships this way. People are more apt to look at your opportunity if they feel they can trust you. Don't just go there and post your opportunity...get involved!

Very very true - I agree wholeheartedly with Sharon and Kim on this...with any forum - not just mommy forums...
I'm not a mommy yet, but I do find that there are some great women with valuable information and if you listen to them, they'll be more inclined to listen to what you have to say (whether or not you're man, woman, mommy or not...)
Just my 2 cents,
Teli |
