I am trying to get into the field. I have some experience because I use to work at Emory Hospital in the heart unit. Can you help any other way? |

I have a section on my website about getting into medical transcription: http://www.homewiththekids.com/medical-transcription/index.htm
Hardest part is getting experience, of course. What kind of experience did you have at Emory? Transcription, office, other? You need a good ear for the terminology, but if you have that, check and see if anyone will test you before you go through one of the schools. My employer, Medquist, has been known to hire without actual transcription experience, just medical experience, if you pass the test, but that was a few years ago, and now they are partnered with several schools, so I don't know if they do that any more. Spheris hires from some of the same places as Medquist, so they may be a good company to contact as well.
Another good spot for MT jobs is http://www.mtdesk.com. That one is sponsored by a couple of the better schools, so you can get great advice there, if a little biased toward their sponsors. |

Thanks and best regards,

Short version of what is on the link I gave above: Pick a good school, assuming you don't have transcription experience. Best of the affordable ones is http://www.careerstep.com at it's Gold level program. That school is partnered with my employer, Medquist, and other employers also hire from them. It takes several months to complete a good program. It's a pretty good job, you can generally set your own hours, and pay is by production, so you need to type both fast and accurately to make a living at this. |

Hello,
I, too, am interested in part-time transcription. Where could I take a test to see if I need to actually take a course?... I am currently a working nurse (for 6 years) and certainly have had my hands into tons of paperwork... that's what nursing has become, less patient contact and more paperwork. I am certainly familiar with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-9 coding etc. If you know a website that offers such testing, let me know, please,

Sir,
I am Yogesh Sawant from Pune, state -Maharashtra, country - India. I am 29 yrs old. I have been involve in development sector for the past 7 yrs. However the field isn't paying well, hence I am planning to shift to Medical Transcription. 2 YRS ago I was selected by a medical transcription firm in my home town, however I did not join because the field was new to India. I have seen that several MT companies sprouted in India during 1998-99 but many losed down in a short time. Now few seem to have stabilised. I would be very glad to have your advice on this. How are the returns and sustainability in India and abroad. Thanking you in anticipation. My E-mail ID is: yogeshgsawant@rediffmail.com
Pls. send your E-mail ID too.
Thanking you
Warm regards
Yogesh Sawant |

I have been a medical transcriptionist for 14 years. One of the best resources for getting answers to questions is MTDesk. There is a wealth of knowledge about everything MT, including what schools to AVOID. |

I am a Mom, and I am going to school to be a Paralegal, I am very interested and would like to do this...is there anyone out there that would hire me, with no experience? Could you send me the info I need to get started either with the training I need or a company that would take a chance on me? Thank you |
