Hi Guyz (Gals too!)

Can I have little more info about cgi-bin? Is there any alternative for cgi-bin. How do I upload cgi scripts to cgi directory?

Please use human language only (sorry I'm non-techy) Wink

Thanx Smile

"cgi-bin" is name for folder where you execute Perl scripts (binaries - thats from where bin came from). .cgi and .pl are extensions and language is Perl - very powerfull programming language BUT, not limited to Web programming. Its good because you can do many other things with it, but its also bad, because it isnt ment for Internet programming by default - common sence will tell you that the language which is SPECIFICALY ment for progarmming on the Web is better solution that Perl, which is definitly more redundant. Speaking of which, I mean on PHP, which is combination of C and Perl, yet very easy to learn (as all C-like programs, including Perl). If you want to learn some web programming language, my suggestion would be to learn PHP. You can learn Perl minimum, necessary in order to install CGI/Perl scripts.

Regarding uploading, thats easy part - just use your favorite FTP client and go into cgi-bin! Smile

P.S. Do you have any FTP client?

Another note...don't try to reinvent the wheel. There are many, many free scripts out there that you can use. I recommend you do a search for "free perl scripts" or something like that before you undertake writing your own.

Some scripts can be easily converted for use on your site by just changing a line or 2 of the code instead of starting from scratch. Can save you tons of time & frustration. If you need any help with a paticular script, feel free to contact me.
