How can I install POP3 email accounts for my domain? Which port does POP3 run on? Can I have more than 50 POP3 email accounts? Why does it sometimes take longer than normal for my emails to download?
How can I install POP3 email accounts for my domain? Open your Webspace Manager (http://yourdomain/menu), click on Email Management and follow the instructions. You can find further information here: Creating a new mailbox. A POP3 account should be created when a user needs a mailbox of their own with a distinct user name and password. To take advantage of unlimited email addresses, you do not need to create POP3 accounts. All mails@yourdomain.com are automatically redirected to the mailbox postmaster@yourdomain.com. You can determine which email address these mails are forwarded to, e.g. to username@yourdomain.com. The POP3 server has the same name as your domain (without the www), e.g. yourdomain.com and is used only by you. Emails can be downloaded with any email program (e.g. Outlook Express). You can check whether new emails arrived as often as you want, filter your messages and much more. It is recommended to regularly check whether new emails arrived. Which port does POP3 run on? Port 110. The correct port number is indispensable for the use of POP3. By default, the POP3 port is set to 110 in most email clients, and you do not need to configure or edit anything. Can I have more than 50 POP3 email accounts? Yes... customers with more than 50 employees who each need their own POP3 account can create additional mailboxes upon request. Why does it sometimes take longer than normal for my emails to download? This can have several reasons. Often the cause is a large attachment which accompanies an email. You need 23 minutes to download a 10 MB attachment with 56 a Kbps modem! (Incidentally, 10 MB is the upper limit for attachments at Domaintechnik.com and it is actually not very reasonable to include such large files. They should be transferred by FTP instead. See also: Anonymous FTP) Another reason for downloads taking longer than normal could be a slow (or overloaded) connection between your internet provider. This is rather unusual and should occur rarely.
