Most people use o­nly their two physical eyes to view the internet, but after I discovered an extra pair of eyes, I can never do without them. These are the alexa and google toolbars. Today I am going to show you how you can get an extra pair or eyes o­n the internet. These two are  The google toolbar The alexa toolbar These tools sit in my browser and they provide me information about any site that I visit. So I can immediately see how popular a page that I am visiting is and what other people have to say about it. You need to be o­n the Microsoft side of the fence to used these, that means you should have internet explorer 5 or later. Most people have this and if you do not know just do not about your browser, just try to install the software anyway. You can get these from http://toolbar.google.com (install the o­ne with advanced features as the other o­ne does not show the page rank) and http://download.alexa.com Follow the instructions and install these toolbars. The most useful information is the google page Rank (the green bar) and the alexa traffic rank in the middle of the toolbars. The google page rank in the google toolbar gives  "Google’s measure of the importance of the page" you are visiting o­n a scale of 0 to 10 with 10 being the most important. The alexa traffic ranking gives the traffic rank of the website you are visiting. The lower the traffic rank, the higher the traffic. As you browse the internet with these toolbars, you will be able to get an idea of how much how to judge the a given site from the toolbar readings. Understanding and interpreting the alexa traffic rank will take some time as you visit websites and compare the numbers with others. If you make a new site, it will have no traffic ranking and a 0 google page rank. As of this writing, a site that gets minimum traffic may be ranked around 3,000,000 A site with a ranking less than 500,000 may be getting a few unique visitors every day, and it may take hundreds of unique visits every week to get into the top 100,000 (just my opinion based o­n my experience). The google page rank is a logarithmic scale, that means that it is much more difficult to get from PR6 to PR7 than it is to get from PR5 to PR6 for example. It takes much work to get a google PR6 and above. The PR value plays a role to determine the position in the search results when a user searches for keywords related to that site. When you click o­n the alexa traffic rank, you will be able to see more details about the site. Some reviews here are very useful and have helped me to know the truth behind what the site says o­n its pages many times. Alexa also provides a neat graph showing the traffic history, details over a period of time. There are lots of useful features in the toolbar like popup blocking, related sites, contact info etc Note that the google page rank is for a particular page where as the alexa traffic rank will be the same for all pages o­n the website.
